April has been involved in art her whole life.
She was first motivated when
her
3rd grade teacher displayed her drawings of cartoon characters in class. April
has worked in pencil drawing, oil painting, stained glass, fused glass and
watercolor. In her paintings her goal is to portray the emotions she perceives
from people, places and creatures she has had the pleasure to meet or see. She
hopes to invoke an emotional response in her audience. Her glass art takes a
more abstract approach in which she strives to attract her audience’s attention
with both color and form while bringing in familiar shapes from the world of
nature to arouse the curiosity of her viewers.
April is a signature artist member of Baltimore Watercolor Society (BWS) and the
Washington Watercolor Association. In addition she is on the executive board of
both BWS and the Laurel Art Guild. She is also a member of the National Capital
Art Glass Guild (NCAGG), Maryland Federation of Art, and the Dorchester Art
Center.
Achievements include solo exhibits at Dorchester Art Center (watercolors) and at
the Maryland Federation of Art’s Circle Gallery (fused glass). Awards include
1st place in 2008 LAG Open at Montpelier Art Center, honorable mention for
exhibits at Slayton House in Columbia Maryland, Quiet Waters Gallery in
Annapolis Maryland, and at Montpelier Art Center in Laurel Maryland. April’s
glass has been accepted into exhibits including an International Competition at
Gallery International in Baltimore; NCAGG exhibits at Arts Afire Gallery and
Rossdhu Gallery; at the Dorchester Art Center in Cambridge Maryland; at Quiet
Waters Gallery, and Columbia Art Center. April work can be found in collections
