Aurora Borealis IGuatemalan GirlIn April’s paintings her goal is to portray the emotions she perceives from people, places and creatures she has had the pleasure to meet or see. She hopes to invoke an emotional response in her audience.  She paints landscapes and portraits inspired by trips within the Unites States and abroad.  She also enjoys creating images of animals and birds on occasion.  Her watercolors continue to be representational but have become more interpretive.

April has taken art classes and workshops from professional artists starting in her late teens.  Her first mentor was Paul Scopp, who emphasized the importance of value.  She has also studied under Bob Coe of the BWS and completed watercolor workshops with Cheng-khee Chee, NWS, AWSDF;  Nicholas Simmons; Jim Kosvanec, NWS; Fritz Briggs, BWS; Carolyn Gawarecki, BWS, PVWS; Carl Dalio, AWS, NWS; Frank Francese, NWS; Don Andrews, AWS; Tony van Hasselt, AWS; Skip Lawrence;  Debi Watson, Jean Uhl Spicer and Sandra Blair, BWS, Society of Animal Artists (SAA), and Artists for Conservation (AFC).
